CANCELLED - NH Astronomical Society - Skywatch!

Thursday, August 88:00—9:30 PMOutsideSandown Public Library305 Main Street, Sandown, NH, 03873

Join Sandown Public Library for a stellar event as part of our 2024 Summer Reading Program: "Adventure Begins at Your Library!"

We are excited to host the New Hampshire Astronomical Society's Skywatch. This event is a gathering of amateur astronomers dedicated to outreach and education, designed to be "beginner-friendly" and accessible to all. At a Skywatch, the focus is on providing an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone. Whether you're a novice or an enthusiast, you'll have the opportunity to explore the wonders of the night sky through telescopes and guided observations. Learn about constellations, planets, and other celestial phenomena in an engaging and interactive environment.

We Kindly Request That You:

Watch your step - Be especially careful of wires on the ground.

Park Carefully - Try to park so that your headlights and back-up lights won’t interfere with the observers.

No Smoking - Smoke damages telescope optics.

Red Flashlights - No white lights. A red light will not ruin your night vision as much as white light will. You can cover the lens of a regular light with red plastic or tail-light repair tape. A dim light will seem bright once your eyes become dark-adapted.

No Flash Photography - The bright flash of a camera can wreck everyone's night vision.

Stay Warm - Few people realize just how chilly it gets late at night, even in summer, particularly when you are standing still under a clear sky. Bring about twice as much warm clothing as you think you'll need. In summer, a light and heavy jacket, warm shirt, jeans.

Don't miss this unique chance to discover the universe and ignite your passion for astronomy. Join us for an evening of stargazing and discovery at Sandown Public Library!
